El Bandido Doblemente Armado
The café-bookshop El Bandido Doblemente Armado (The Double-Armed Bandit) belongs to the family of writer Soledad Puértolas. It is one of those places in Madrid that don't go unnoticed and if you go just once, you'll never forget you've been there.
The bar, located behind a glass door, looks at first like a regular cafeteria. But the window displays, full of literary rarities, places you right away in a real bookshop. The fact is that El Bandido is one of the most authentic cultural spaces in Madrid .
25% café, 25% bookshop, 25% room for temporal exhibits, and 25% a space for celebrating events of various kinds: book presentations, video poems, readings... You can have a coffee or a mojito, eat a piece of cake while comfortably reading a book or buy one… Besides books, they also sell records, Moleskin diaries and other things, and every once in a while there are Dj sessions.
Take your time when you go to El Bandido. That's what's good about good bookshops –you know when you get in, but not when you will leave. The books they sell are probably available in other places, but they don't offer the magic of doing it while having a tasty coffee or even a drink at midnight. One thing is for sure: El Bandido won't disappoint you…
