June 26 is the day chosen by Netflix to premiere the much-awaited documentary What happened, Miss Simone?, a film devoted to the life and work of wonderful artist Nina Simone, also known as the “high priestess of soul”, directed by Oscar-nominated Liz Garbus with the support of Nina Simone’s daughter Lisa Simone Kelly. The documentary was officially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It tells the story of this legendary American jazz, blues and soul singer, composer and pianist, from her childhood as a prodigious pianist to the iconic singer and activist she finally became as an adult.

“What Happened, Miss Simone?” will draw on more than 100 hours of recordings, telling her story largely in her own words, along with excerpts from her diaries and letters as well as interviews with Simone’s daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, friends and collaborators.
