It has been a few years now since on Calle Comerç 1 the traditional bar there located became one of the Born’s most consolidated restaurants. We can safely say Tara and Jaime were the first to serve bunch in Barcelona. But this is just the tip of the iceberg of what Picnic really is. There you can have lunch, dinner or enjoy a cocktail in a tastefully decorated environment.

The food is served at the bar, where guests can chat with the cooks. The menu features classics such as quinoa croquettes or fried green tomatoes, dishes that have become an institution in Barcelona thanks to Picnic. These are reasons enough to visit the restaurant. But let’s focus on the brunch menu.
Besides to steak tartar, a relatively new addition to the menu, highlights include eggs benedict served with English muffin, bacon, spinach and Dutch sauce; and also with smoked salmon or with avocado, crab and raff tomato. Huevos rancheros or cochinita pibil tacos are also classics here, as well as pancakes with strawberry jam, syrup and crème fraiche. These recipes are now familiar to anyone, but few know that this is where the Barcelona brunch culture was forged.
At night the menu takes on a more formal and refined air, but without losing the casual essence of the house. Next to the fried green tomatoes and the quinoa croquettes, there tapas such as prawn gyozas with vegetables and nos cham; burrata with raff tomato raff, pesto, wild radish and scallops; scallop tiradito with tiger milk and yellow ají.
As for second courses, our favourites are beef onglet with pepper and chips, fish tacos with grilled gilt, fennel, avocado, lime and cilantro; and octopus with cherry tomatoes, seasonal mushrooms and spinach. Sandwiches like the 250gr Big Papa Burger or the fried chicken brioche with fennel salad, ranchero dressing ranchero and jalapenos round off the menu. Leave space for desserts, especially for plum crumble and crème fraiche or their spectacular cheesecake with red berries.
The best kept secret –besides an outdoor are to eat weather permitting— is a cellar where group meals can be reserved.
Lunch or dinner at Picnic between 20 and 25€, bellini or mimosa included.
