Mextizo is a new restaurant located in the Eixample and run by Chef Adrian Marin. Born in Castellón, after his foray into haute cuisine at the Drolma restaurant in Barcelona and his three years in Mexico, he returns with his best smile to delight both local and international guests. The new restaurant has a new location to serve what they call mexditerranean food.  However, Marin stresses out the fact that it isn’t “fusion cuisine” but a menu featuring Mexican starters and Mediterranean dishes such as rice, stews or Getaria’s grilled cuisine. Traditional and creative, this new gastronomic proposal has Juli Capella in charge of interior design. It’s funny because the artist has managed to create an open and attractive space without falling into the facile idea of applying the combination of Mexican and Spanish details. In addition to aesthetics, functionality is also a strong point. For example, felt geometric compositions adorn the walls but also absorb the noise in the room.

We don’t often find an ideally comfortable restaurant as Mextizo, as it has a surface of 400 m2 plus a 78 m2 terrace to smoke a cigarette and enjoy the oxide, rocks and vegetation that surround it.

We understand the concept is somewhat confusing since it is difficult not to associate the combination of Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine with fusion food. But what Marin has done is bring his favorite Mexican recipes and the best Mediterranean dishes together. The menu includes dishes such as crispy cornets with tuna, rice and guacamole; Cochinita pibil tacos with X-nipec or Baja California ceviche with chili powder, shrimp and mango. As second courses you will find an extensive menu of rice dishes, casseroles and Getaria-style grill-roaster to cook the best piece of steak.

Mextizo is definitely the ideal place for sharing dishes and try a little bit of everything

Of course, all this is accompanied by a wine list featuring 130 national and international references also including cava, champagne, tequila and mescal. Mextizo is definitely the ideal place for sharing dishes and try a little bit of everything. If you’re not that hungry, have a snack and a cocktail in the bar at any time of the day!
