Calle Mandri and the surrounding area has become a destination for foodies. Sant Gervasi had been gradually becoming a coveted residential area, but not a gourmet destination. Consolidated restaurants such as La Royale and Bao Bar have now a new companion called Lío de 4, a gastrobar run by chef Jordi Blanch, known for his work at Dos Palillos in Barcelona and Berlin and at Talla de Cadaqués. In over a year, Jordi, along with three other partners, has managed to give character to Lío de 4.

In this appetizing space fast food and market ingredients are blended rightly and with a lot of personality. Unpretentious and delicious, the menu invites to start with oyster with ceviche, foie nougat, smoked sardine burrata, and carpaccio with tuna belly. Now that it is cold, there are warm tapas such as fondue croquettes with Idiazabal cheese and spinach; cod fritters with sugarcane molasses; bull tail brioche or octopus with sobrasada parmentier. All omelets –half-cooked, half-raw, show that in the kitchen of this quaint restaurant they know what they are doing.



Other dishes included in the simple and succulent menu are artichoke cream with poached eggs, which is actually a delicious mousse, and zucchini cannelloni with cod, dried tomatoes and pistachios. Sautéed squid with Santa Pau beans, Galician steak tartar with cassava chips or braised meatballs. All of them are recipes made with traditional ingredients that take a different dimension Blanch’s hand. Desserts are also worth trying. Don’t leave without having their fruit salad or the Catalan cream, desserts that with a little imagination can turn into something magical.


Lío de 4 also serves vermouth, canned food and pork products, Santoña anchovies, smoked sardine steaks with dried tomatoes, gildas, chips, Iberian ham or a magnificent selection of cheeses.


A meal at Lío de 4 -or a late-afternoon snack, since the kitchen doesn’t close- is about 25-30 €, depending on the wine.
