I guess it must have been extremely hard for the jury of the National Geographic Traveller Photo Contest 2014 to choose from the more than 18,000 photographs they received this year. Yes, it must have been crazy but also amazing to see images of the world’s most spectacular, unique and fascinating corners. You can see the selected photos above. The overall winner is the photo of the awesome Colorado tornado entitled The Independence Day, the work of photographer Mark Koro?ec.

This is the 26th edition of one of the world’s most important photography competitions. The jury awarded prizes to three photographs and seven honorable mentions, as well as the Public Prize. The Slovenian photographer Marko Koro?ec, which won the first prize, captured a wonderful image of Tornado Alley. The photographer will be awarded with an 8-day National Geographic expedition to Alaska for two people.
