Maison Martin Margiela and MYKITA playing with their own rules within the sometimes typecast fashion world. One can clearly see they are free riders. They share a modus operandi, conceptuality and creative rigor based on historical forms. Their latest stunt is to team up to launch an amazing collection of sunglasses for this SS14 season named The Essential Collection.

The result is spectacular and shows how well these two firms understand each other. Futurism, high quality and quite radical unisex designs with stainless steel frames inspired by the optical forms of the past century. What’s more, they commissioned filmmakers Julien Soulier y Adrien Landre (Partizan) the creation of the fashion film you can watch below these lines.

The piece in question closes perfectly the conceptual circle created by Maison Martin MargielaMYKITA for the eyewear collection. In a refined, futuristic environment, we see characters who look like real replicants redesigned for the next century, constantly contemplating the sky as if waiting for something. The video features nods to surrealist painters like Renne Magrite?that reflection of the sky and the clouds on the glasses is a great tribute?and other details typical of science fiction. A sort of a tremendously disturbing, contemporary and modern Matrix?
