In life, there’s nothing better than having low expectations. A good example? The day Good2b was invited to discover Fogo, the gastronomic project of João Alcantara, the personal chef of Barça player Dani Alves, who is also the project’s sponsor. Before going to Fogo, we thought it would be the typical restaurant supported by a celebrity. But it is a small table for 12 people located in Altar, a space on the first floor of La Boquería that chef Oscar Manresa had offered for the occasion. This place won’t be the scenario of all Fogo dinners. Fogo is a sort of a pop-up restaurant that will open in different locations around the city. The only condition is that that can’t be more than 40 guests. Prices range between 80 and 120 euros. Is it worth it? Yes, definitely.

Dani Alves didn’t miss this intimate debut and decided to sit at the table with the journalists. He told us about the benefits of Brazilian cuisine, while Alcantara and his team served the best of brasuca recipes with an exquisite signature touch. During dinner, in addition to speaking at length about food and wine with Dani Alves—we’d have never guessed he’s a real connoisseur— we tried some of his favorite dishes by Alcantara João. Although the menu varies depending on the day, his favorite creations tend to prevail in the menu. It is the case of a spectacular tapioca and squid cube, acaí gazpacho on feta cheese snow, the surprising celeriac carbonara or hake with moqueca sauce. We were pleasantly surprised by the grilled scallop with cassava and coffee and with the ox tongue cooked at low temperature with apple and star fruit. Among desserts, we highlight the originality of the Fogo egg, a pleasure for the eyes and senses, as well as the sweet garden, another classic by Alcantara. Fogo is a food festival that is a visual delight thanks to the product disposition and the measure-made dishes, but also healthy and very tasty.
