There are few places in Las Palmas where you can find second-hand objects with a so much style and history!

At Beat, store run by Antonella, an Italian who arrived in Canarias a few years ago after having spent some time in England and worked as a waitress, you will find clothes, accessories, old technology (TV sets, phones, cameras), carnival masks, shoes, costume jewellery and many more things for all tastes and needs!

I took some pictures of her store and spent a while chatting with Antonella. The name of the shop is Beat for two reasons: because of the American’s literary movement from the 1950s called Beat Generation, and whose most famous writer is perhaps Allen Ginsberg (I strongly recommend the movie Howl, starring James Franco on the role of Allen Ginsberg). The second reason is no less important: she designed the store’s sign and she didn’t have much wood, so she had to choose a short name.

The store is a treasure chest, with objects she sometimes doesn’t sell because she becomes very fond of them. An example: this Barbie with a paper dress. The telephone right to the dolls is one of the first telephone models sold in Spain by Telefónica.

Sin duda, además de todo lo que puedes ver en la tienda, cada una de las cosas que allí habitan tienen una historia detrás, y si le preguntas a Antonella, ella te la contará =)
