Peruvian cuisine has more and more adepts in Madrid and Gaston Acuario has turned his restaurant Astrid & Gastón into a fashionable place.

The first Astrid & Gastón restaurant was opened in Lima in 1994 and in a few years it became one of the best restaurants in the world. Then they exported the idea to other cities in Latin America and now to Madrid. Astrid & Gastón Madrid has been chosen Best Foreign Food Restaurant by Metrópolo and has been awarded with a Sol CAMPSA thanks to its delicious, original food.

The restaurant is divided into two different areas, one with a view of the glass-covered kitchen and an upstairs area, which looks onto Paseo de la Castellana, with a discreet, elegant decoration that highlights the food. A strong point about Astrid & Gastón is that tables are actually separated by a sensible distance so you can avoid hearing your neighbour’s conversation, something hard to find nowadays even in expensive restaurants. And during the summer months you can also have your meal at the terrace.

As for the menu, we recommend Lima’s Causa (Yellow Potato stuffed with Tuna Bellies, Avocado, Tomato and Egg, covered with pickling brine and Huancaína Sauce; Chupe Soup with Potatoes, Cheese, Corn, Egg, Chilli and Huacatay (black mint) and, last but not least, the famous Peruvian Ceviche in a variety of recipes: Corvina Ceviche with Tiger Milk, Corn, Sweet Potato, Cancha (corn) and Purple Onion; or the Afrodisiac Cevivhe with Scallops, Octopus and Baby Shrimp. To wash down all these delicious dishes, order a fresh pisco.

The price is quite high, 75 EUR per person; 72 EUR for the tasting menu and 20 EUR for the Kids Menu. If you want to treat yourself sometime, go to Astrid & Gastón and you’ll be delighted!
